Varsity Touch girls

On October 18, the combined Varsity team (Macquarie, UTS and Sydney) defeated Campbelltown 5- 4 in the grand final of Vawdon Cup. Despite the score line see-sawing between the two teams for much of the 40 minutes, for most on the side-line a win for Varsity was never in doubt.

With Coach Gary Toohey at the helm, the girls demonstrated confidence in each other, working off the momentum of their semi final thrashing against Cronulla. Campbelltown, led by New South Wales and Australian veteran, Kylie Small, could not withstand strong driving and well-structured line attack of the Varsity team, with standout performances from Anna Floyd and Emma Allport who broke the defensive line with ease.

A Vawdon Cup win, which requires a season of sustained performances peaking at the right time for the final series, does not come along very often, and is a very exciting development for the new Varsity club.

The Varsity try scorers were Kate Le Brocq, Kate Odgers, as well as Allport and Floyd.
