Sydney University Cricket Club’s push for a third Belvedere Cup in five years will intensify when the 2007-08 Sydney grade cricket competition resumes this Saturday.
The Students, who lead the competition with seven rounds to play, will take on last-placed Mosman in a two-day fixture at Allan Border Oval.
They will then meet second-placed St George in a limited over game at University Oval, followed by two-day fixtures against Northern Districts at Waitara Oval, Manly-Warringah, Sydney and Penrith, all at University No.1, and a limited over game against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval to lead into the quarter-finals.
Sydney University has compiled one outright win, eight first innings wins, a draw and two first innings losses to head the competition table on 59 points, with St George (47), Eastern Suburbs (44), Northern District (44), Penrith (43) and Sydney (38) making up the top six.
SUCC is also in line to win a second Club Championship with Second Grade (sixth), Thirds (third), Fourths (second) and Fifths (seventh) all in contention for quarter-final berths.
SUCC heads the Club Championship on 862 points, ahead of Bankstown (781), Penrith (753) and Randwick-Petersham (717).
The Students will be without the services of Ed Cowan this weekend. The young opener is in Canberra playing with an ACT Invitational XI against India at Manuka Oval.
Meanwhile, Stuart Clark has been retained in the Australian squad to take on India in the Third Test in Perth.
