Netballers bow out

Fairfield-City-Sydney University bowed out of the NSW Waratah Cup netball competition last week when they suffered an agonising one-point loss to Eastwood-Ryde in their minor semi-final encounter.

Ryde-Eastwood triumphed 56-55 in the nail-biter at the Anne Clark Centre. It was the second time in a week that Fairfield City-Sydney University had lost to Ryde-Eastwood by a point. The final round of the competition proper ended in a 46-45 result.

Sydney Storm took out the Waratah Cup grand final after defeating minor premiers, Hunter Jays 52-44 in the major semi-final and Eastwood Ryde 54-45 in the grand final.

Fairfield City-Sydney University made it through to the grand final in Division 8 of the State League. After finishing second on the competition ladder, their destiny was ruled by two one-point margins.

The Eights lost the major semi-final 42-41 to Manly-Warringah, defeated Charlestown 45-32 in the final and then suffered a 49-48 loss to Manly-Warringah in the grand final.
