Stewart leads scoring

Sydney University athlete Sarah Stewart is the top scorer after the first round of matches in the Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League, played at the weekend.

Stewart, who captains the Hills Hornets, has 84 points to her credit after the first round (block of four matches).

The Australian Glider representative top-scored with 20 in the Hills Hornets’ 51-42 win over Western Starts, led the way with 22 in the 58-48 win over the Goudkamp Gladiators, top-scored with 20 in the 69-44 result over Queensland Comets, and top-scored again with 22 in the Hornets’ 59-35 win over Knox Ford Raiders.

Other leading scorers from the first round are Jenna Mizens (Goudkamp Gladiators – 76), Kylie Gauci (Goudkamp Gladiators - 67), Alison Mosely (Queensland Comets - 51) and Cobi Crispin (Queensland Comets – 44).

Needless to say, the Hills Hornets lead the competition on 12 points, from the Gladiators (9), Comets (7), Raiders (6) and Western Stars (5).

The second round (batch of four matches) in the WNWBL will be played at the Knox Basketball Stadium, Melbourne, from July 1-3.

But before the second round, Stewart, will enter a selection camp for the Paralympic qualifiers.
