Silver for swimmers

Sydney University Swim Club finished second overall at the NSW Open Swimming Championships held at Homebush at the weekend.

The 13-strong Sydney University team amassed 460 points to finish with the silver medal behind SLC Aquadot (472 points).

Matt Jaukovic and Kate Johnson head the Sydney University surge, with Jaukovic winning gold in the 50m butterfly in 23.89sec and silver in the 100m butterfly, while Sydney University Sport Scholarship holder Johnson picked up silver in the 200m butterfly.

Other Sydney University finalists included: Angela Hurley (4th 50m freestyle), David Wise (6th 50m backstroke), Alistaire Pickles (8th 200m breaststroke and 9th 50m breaststroke), Anthony Fine (10th 50m breaststroke), Ashley Kirby (7th 50m backstroke and 9th 100m backstroke), David Schnabl (8th 50m backstroke), Hamid Mobarez (9th 50m butterfly and 10th 100m butterfly), Johnson (4th 100m butterfly, 5th 200m freestyle, 4th 400mfreestyle, 7th 100m freestyle and 5th 50m butterfly), Jaukovic (4th 100m backstroke and 5th 50m backstroke) and Christopher Antony (13years - 6th 400m freestyle).

Sydney University Swim Club will be represented by three swimmers - Jonathon Newton, Tim Laforest and Michelle Englesman and head coach Stephen Alderman at the World University Games to be held in Thailand over the next two weeks.
